Announcing the Central Oregon Chamber Orchestra with Commissioned Work by Chris Thomas for Solo Soprano

The program will feature mezzo-soprano Charlene Chi, performing Celestial Threads by composer Chris Thomas. This evocative work was commissioned especially for Chi to perform at this concert, marking a special collaboration between composer and soloist.

Charlene Chi, originally from Toronto, is an acclaimed performer of operatic, chamber, and concert repertoire with appearances across North America, Europe, and South Korea. She has soloed with the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra and the Seattle Chamber Orchestra and has performed in Rome’s Basilica di Santa Maria del Popolo, among many other distinguished venues.

Please note that our venue for this concert will be Mountain View High School.

Central Oregon Chamber Orchestra concerts:

This season’s chamber concert is a journey through classical style, from Baroque elegance to modern creativity. Corelli’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 4 showcases the grace and balance of the Baroque era, full of lyrical charm and intricate textures. Haydn’s Symphony No. 101, nicknamed “The Clock” for its distinctive ticking rhythm in the second movement, exemplifies his wit, invention, and mastery of the Classical symphony. Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony pays homage to that same era with a fresh 20th-century twist—light, spirited, and full of surprising turns. The program also features the world premiere of a newly commissioned work by Chris Thomas, offering a contemporary voice in dialogue with centuries of musical tradition.
