Acclaimed saxophonist Rhett Bender joins us for Glazunov’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra, a lyrical and virtuosic showcase for the instrument. A professor of music at Southern Oregon University, Bender is an accomplished soloist, educator, and performer whose career has taken him to stages and festivals around the world. The program also features Glinka’s spirited Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila, Holmès’ evocative “La Nuit et l’Amour,” and Copland’s lively Hoe-down from “Rodeo.” Mussorgsky’s monumental Pictures at an Exhibition completes a colorful program celebrating the expressive range and power of the orchestra.
