Central Oregon Symphony - Young Artist Competition Procedures and Guidelines

The competition will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2010 – beginning at 2:00 pm – in Wille Hall in the Campus Center at Central Oregon Community College, Bend, Oregon.

Each participant will be given a maximum of 12 minutes to perform. Instrumental participants should prepare a movement from a concerto (or multiple movements if they choose) or similar concert piece. Singers should prepare an aria or similar selection. Participants may choose to audition with a piece that is longer than 12 minutes, though she/he must determine which movement, portions of different movements,or portions of a single movement work, they will present to the adjudicators that will fall within the time allowed. Participants may perform their work by memory, but it is not required.

Winners of the 2009 COSA Young Artist Competition, who performed in concert with the Central Oregon Symphony in February 2010, are not eligible to participate in the 2010 competition on the same instrument.

All participants must have a private music instructor review their audition selection and sign the registration form; thereby affirming that the performer has met the required criteria, especially the limitation on time allowed for performance.

Participants are responsible for arranging and compensating their own accompanists.

If a participant is selected to play with the Central Oregon Symphony during the 2010-2011 Concert Season,the Music Director may limit the number of movements, or total performance time in order to fit within a specific program. Additionally, only works with readily available and appropriately accessible orchestral parts will be considered for programming. Confirmation of entry will be emailed when registration form and payment are received. Additional information and instructions, including a participant’s audition time, will be emailed no later than Tuesday, June 1, 2010.
