Music in Public Places

CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERTS

We are currently working on our 2009-2010 Music In Public Places Chamber Music Series. Here are the potential performances and pieces.

September 2009 - String Trio - To Be Determined

November 2009 - Woodwind Sextet Youth (Czech: Mladi)- Leoš Janácek
The woodwind sextet Youth (Czech: Mladi) was composed for flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, bassoon, and bass clarinet. It consists of four movements which contain interesting musical ideas, including the main theme from the March of the Blue-Boys in the third movement. Youth in 1925 was awarded the Prize of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

January 2010 - Schubert Octet
The Octet boasts the largest scale for any chamber work by Schubert. It is scored for a clarinet, a bassoon , a horn , two violins , a viola , a cello , and a double bass . This instrumentation is similar to that of the Beethoven Septet, differing only by the addition of a second violin. This Octet has six movements and duration is about one hour.

March 2010 - Trombone and Chamber Group - Music to Be Determined

June 2010 - Viola, Clarinet, Piano
This combination differs from the classical Piano trio combination (piano, violin and violoncello) by the fact that the viola and the clarinet have roughly the same ambitus , and thus are distinguished by timbre rather than height. While being rather anecdotical, this combination of timbres did inspire several major composers and more than a great piece may be found in this small repertoire.

All Music In Public Places performances are free and open to the public.
