About the Symphony

Our Vision: "Enriching lives through dynamic musical performances"

Our Mission: "The mission of the Central Oregon Symphony Association (COSA) is to promote symphonic music as an integral, inclusive component of community life by offering fundraising, marketing, and public relations support to Central Oregon Symphony and related educational and outreach programs."

Our Musicians: Some COS musicians have mastered their instruments at such nationally prestigious music schools as Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and Cleveland Institute of Music; many others have honed their skills through our thriving local music programs and regional universities. Some of our musicians have joined COS after having retired from renowned professional orchestras like the Seattle Symphony and Pacific Symphony. Many others are currently active as music teachers and performers. Regardless of their backgrounds, all COS musicians share a common and passionate belief. A full-season residential orchestra is essential to quality of life in our region. This is why COS musicians devote countless volunteer hours to the task of creating a magical, full season of classical concerts for all members of our community to enjoy.

Our Conductor: One would have to search the orchestras of the world, large and small, elite and amateur, to find a conductor who is more respected and beloved by audiences and musicians alike as our own maestro, Michael Gesme. Speaking for many is COS supporter Juliet Imes: “There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to make sure this conductor stays in our community - I just love him!”
